Is cannabis coming to Croton… or not?

The combination of a court decision just handed down and the difficulties of a Croton High School graduate in finding a suitable dispensary location may put the whole idea on hold for some time.

Last October 4, Thomas Moore Jr., a graduate and former football player at Croton Harmon High School (Class of 2009) informed the village that he intended to apply for an adult-use retail cannabis dispensary license from New York’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM.) He hoped to install the dispensary in the ShopRite shopping center at 440 South Riverside Avenue, in the location now occupied by a laundry.

The Board took up the matter at its October 16, 2023 meeting, where there was a brief discussion which included the legal aspects as well as the effect that a cannabis dispensary might have on the already problematic parking situation in the ShopRite center. Another discussion took place at the November 13 Board meeting, where Moore was represented by attorney Andrew Schriever of the law firm Prince Lobel Tye, well-known cannabis industry attorneys located in Purchase.  At that meeting, Schriever and Moore presented a traffic study undertaken by a contracted engineering firm, which found that the effect of opening the dispensary on traffic would be minimal—and if not, Moore would take “mitigation” measures to help with the parking situation.  MORE AT
