Check out this American Skyline building by Elgo, courtesy of the late Tom Hull. (Circa 1950's).  He said it was the only American Skyline set he had ever seen or had--and though it isn't as big as it should be (no doubt pieces were missing), you can still make something similar to what was intended.

These would have been compatible with the "O" gauge scale for model railroads. It is a dense white acetate type plastic and although it hasn't warped, it has shrunk very slightly but can still be assembled. Click on the photos for close-ups as well. This would make a fabulous putz!

MICHAEL BALTER

“Nature has spread for us a rich and delightful bouquet. Shall we turn from it? We are still in Eden; the wall that shuts us out of the garden is our own ignorance and folly… May we at times turn from the ordinary pursuits of life to the pure enjoyment of rural nature; which is in the soul like a fountain of cool waters to the way-worn traveler…”

— Thomas Cole, “Essay on American Scenery,” 1836

[Editor’s note: With this post, we inaugurate a new occasional feature for this newsletter, “Chronicle on the Road.” From time to time (or maybe more often, who knows) we will journey to places we think Crotonites might find relevant to their lives, or that they know and might want to revisit. In this first installment, we follow the Hudson River closer to its source, and closer to the source of many inspired depictions of this mighty waterway. To tell the story we have liberally borrowed from several historical sources, referenced at the end of this post.] READ AND SEE MORE AT (3) Chronicle on the Road: The Thomas Cole House in Catskill, home of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. SCHOOL READING ASSIGNMENTS SEXUALLY HARASSED MY CHILD

As this is a hot topic locally and nationally:

School reading assignments sexually harassed my child — despite parent protests

By Bill Santiago--Published July 1, 2024, 7:07 p.m. ET

Here I am trying everything I can to raise my young daughters right, vigilantly monitoring the assault of content they consume.

What are they watching? What are they listening to? What are they scrolling through? Is it appropriate?

Then along comes Kipps Beyond Middle School, the Harlem charter school that I was originally thrilled our preteen would attend.

And all my protective efforts were brazenly violated.

No, my 12-year-old girl wasn’t peer-pressured into exploring sexually explicit content.

She was assigned to do so by her 7th-grade English teacher — without my consent or knowledge.

“Aristotle and Dante Explore the Secrets of the Universe” is a wonderful title for a book.

The Van Gogh-inspired cover appeared in a slideshow on curriculum night, implying our children were embarking on a philosophical, cosmological journey that would open their minds to a new level of literary and intellectual inquiry.

Sneaky, sneaky: Only after students were done reading this book did parents get wind of what was actually between the covers.

“The boys in the book masturbate to each other a lot,” my daughter’s friend blurted out as several families dined together at a restaurant.

We thought our children were being exposed to philosophy, but at last discovered that the book merely featured characters named after philosophers — who obsess about exposing themselves.

Not to mention the causal heroin use, a 15-year-old hiring a trans prostitute and a prison murder, among other similarly wholesome elements, all featured in the book assigned to my underaged daughter. MORE AT School reading assignments are sexually harassing my child (nypost.com)
