Activists presented the Board with a petition that has now topped 1000 signatures.

Last night, August 20, saw one of the sharpest clashes between Planning Board chair Robert Luntz and anti-development protestors we have seen yet. Proposed Changes to NY's Freshwater Wetland Regulations

Hudson River Estuary Program Conservation and Land Use Webinar Series

Major changes in NY’s Freshwater Wetlands regulations will take effect January 1, 2025. The proposed rule would clarify jurisdictional status of smaller wetlands of “unusual importance” that meet one of 11 specific criteria contained in the Freshwater Wetlands Act as amended in 2022. In addition, the draft regulations provide a revised wetlands classification system and a process for the public to request and appeal jurisdictional determinations. Earlier this year, DEC gathered input through an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Currently, the DEC is accepting comments on draft regulations through Sept. 19, 2024.

This webinar will cover:the need for the regulatory changes;
the contents of the draft regulations;
how the comments received earlier in the year were incorporated; and
the next steps in finalizing the regulations.

Because of the status of the draft regulations, questions for the speaker may be submitted in advance only. Following registration, you will receive an email with information about how to submit questions.

Please note this is an informational webinar. Public hearings are scheduled in September.

ALAIN DELON, L'ECLISSE (1962)

As many of you know, our favorite French actor, Alain Delon, has died. European Film Star Postcards has been doing a series of special posts; this one is on Delon and Monica Vitto in L'eclisse:

L'eclisse (1962)

On 18 August 2024, French film star Alain Delon (1935) died at the age of 88. The breathtakingly good-looking James Dean of European cinema in the late 1950s proved in such films as Plein soleil/Purple Noon (1960), Rocco e i suoi fratelli/Rocco and his Brothers (1960) and Il Gattopardo/The Leopard (1963). In another masterpiece, Michelangelo Antonioni's L'eclisse/The Eclipse (1962), Delon plays a confident young stockbroker who has an affair with the enigmatic Monica Vitti. His materialistic nature eventually undermines their relationship. L'eclisse won the Special Jury Award at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d'Or.
