NEW FROM THE CROTON CHRONICLE---THE RICH AND VENERABLE HISTORY OF THE COTON PRESS: A VISIT TO THE ARCHIVES WITH VILLAGE HISTORIAN MARC CHESHIRE

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

NEW FROM THE CROTON CHRONICLE AND MICHAEL BALTER

The rich and venerable history of the Croton press: A visit to the archives with Village Historian Marc Cheshire.

Our village historian has traced Croton journalism back to the late 19th century--a long tradition with only the briefest of gaps.

Many Crotonites know Village Historian Marc Cheshire from the frequent village history walks and other tours he leads, or from the talks he gives in the Croton Free Library, or perhaps from having stopped in to the Croton Historical Society’s offices in the municipal building on a Tuesday when it is open, or perhaps from the profile the Chronicle did of Marc as one of its early articles.

THE INTEL SITUATION---BIDEN HAS MADE A DISASTEROUS BET ON THE WRONG HORSE

Pat Gelsinger has claimed that Intel was months from collapse before he took charge of the semiconductor company. On his telling, the Silicon Valley icon that brought the microchip into the mainstream was ready to be sold off for parts, on the brink of offloading its factories for peanuts and giving up on innovation. ABOUT THOSE ELECTRIC BUSES....AGAIN....BACK TO DIESEL

An investigation into a Maryland school system’s electric bus initiative found that it resulted in millions of dollars in “wasteful spending” due to issues with the vehicles, according to a report from the county’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released in late July. In February 2021, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland announced it was replacing 326 diesel school buses with electric buses as part of its sustainability initiative, the county OIG concluded in the report. Due to delayed deliveries and frequent mechanical issues with the electric buses, the county has had to partially resort back to diesel buses despite the roughly $170 million it paid for the new fleet.
