A LOOK AT THE ONLY MID-HUDSON VILLAGES LISTED FOR THE GOVERNOR'S PRO-HOUSING INITIATIVE---KIRYAS JOEL AND CROTON-ON-HUDSON

As many of you know, the Mayor Etal. has designated Croton as a "Pro-Housing Community" under the Governor's expansive affordable housing program initiative. These are the current Mid-Hudson area communities listed in that initiative--click on the image. The only other village shown in this pro-housing program, besides Croton-on-Hudson, is Kiryas Joel. The rest are towns and cities with their own economic issues. (As always please do your own confirmation due diligence.)

It might be prudent to look at the numbers in comparison; the following is provided for information purposes. Over the next few weeks, residents will be reviewing the other Mid-Hudson towns and cities in this initiative as well. In the words of a citizen speaker at a recent board meeting, Croton-on-Hudson certainly appears to be an "outlier":

**********KIRYAS JOEL---According to 2020 census figures, the village has a high poverty rate with about 40% of the residents living below the federal poverty line. The median income for a household in the village is $40,218, and the per capita income for the village is $12,114 (You can read more about the explosive growth in housing there at Hasidic Suburb Kiryas Joel Slated For Building Boom (therealdeal.com))

**********CROTON-ON-HUDSON---As of the most recent data available, Croton-on-Hudson, NY has a population of approximately 8,237 people. Here are some key income demographics:

--Median Household Income: $166,087, which is more than 1.5 times the amount in the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area.

Household Income Distribution:
Under $50K: 9%
$50K - $100K: 20%
$100K - $200K: 29%
Over $200K: 42%
More in the weeks ahead.
