SAVE THE VOTERS---REPLACE THE SCHOOLS

PETER ST. ONGE--It’s a modern fetish that we’re brilliant while our ancestors were idiots. After all, they didn’t have iPhones, the Internet, or Kim Kardashian.

This is also academic consensus, for what it’s worth: called the Flynn effect, the idea is people do better on puzzles so we must be smarter.  READ MORE AT Save the Voters, Replace the Schools ⋆ Brownstone Institute

One of our favorite French actors has died.....FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EFSP: Yesterday, 18 August 2024, French film star Alain Delon (1935) died at the age of 88. He was the breathtakingly good-looking James Dean of European cinema in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He proved in such films as Plein soleil/Purple Noon (René Clément, 1960) Rocco e i suoi fratelli/Rocco and his brothers (Luchino Visconti, 1960) and L'eclisse/The Eclipse (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1962) that he was also a magnificent actor. Delon later starred in a series of popular gangster films by directors like Henri Verneuil, Jacques Deray and Jean-Pierre Melville. LOHUD--REP. LAWLER RIPS OPPONENT MONDAIRE JONES FOR 2021 VOTE TO LET FELONS VOTE IN PRISON

Rep. Mike Lawler rips opponent Mondaire Jones for 2021 vote to let felons vote in prison--Chris McKenna---New York State Team

NANUET — Rep. Mike Lawler went after Democratic opponent Mondaire Jones for words and a vote that he said were adversarial to law enforcement when Jones served in Congress and during his first run in 2020.

Standing with police officers and two fellow Republicans next to a busy Route 59 intersection, Lawler zeroed in on Jones' 2021 vote to let felons vote from prison, something only two states and Washington, D.C. currently allow. Jones was one of 97 Democrats to back that proposed bill amendment, which was soundly defeated with opposition from every House Republican and 119 other Democrats.

"It's a total slap in the face to our community — to cops, but perhaps most importantly, to crime victims," he said. "Imagine knowing that someone who assaulted you, raped you, somebody who killed a family member, somebody who was found guilty of child molestation, has the same say at the ballot box as you do. It's radical." Read and see more at Mondaire Jones' felon voting backing blasted by Mike Lawler (lohud.com)

CROTON YACHT CLUB, HUDSON RIVER DAY 9/7

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The Croton Yacht Club is happy to announce its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Croton Yacht Club, located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.

The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources.

There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults, focusing on the history and ecology of the river.

Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making; sail boat rides, and local artist displays and sales.

Free sailboat rides will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22-foot sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first-come, first-served basis. The sails will depart at 11 a.m., 12 noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10 a.m. for any of the day’s scheduled sail times. There is a limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passengers must be at least 12 years old. Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.

There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Volunteers will be present during the hours of 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and provide the use of fishing equipment and bait, free of charge.

Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.

The Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community, especially the children. The organization realizes that only through this transfer of knowledge can it safeguard the future of this great resource, the Hudson River.

Food and beverages will be available including the best fish chowder on the Hudson.

Admission is free so please come and join us in a fun filled, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy. Environmental organizations, local craft vendors and artists are welcome. For additional information please contact Dennis Kooney at dennis@kooney.net or call 914-271-6384.
