CROTON, NY — The Croton Dam is a popular Hudson Valley tourist stop, but this week. first responders have been repeat visitors.

For the second time this week, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to the Croton Dam park for a person in distress. And, once again, the victim required a rope-assisted rescue.

Just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, Croton EMS, the Ossining EMS Medic and Westchester County Police were called to the dam for a teen with a leg injury on the trail leading from Route 129/Croton Dam Road down to Croton Gorge Park. An 11-year-old Venezuelan boy was arrested as the main “aggressor” in a violent subway mugging — and has been linked to a larger string of robberies in Central Park being committed by migrant kids, police said Wednesday. The baby-faced perp and a 17-year-old boy were both taken into custody hours after they allegedly attacked a straphanger on a Manhattan-bound 7 train at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday near the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue stop in Queens, law enforcement sources said. FOR THOSE MONITORING THE EAST RAMAPO SCHOOL DISTRICT

'Under protest': East Ramapo board OKs tax levy hike ordered by state commissioner--Nancy Cutler-Rockland/Westchester Journal News--SPRING VALLEY - East Ramapo's school board on Wednesday evening passed a dramatic directive by the state Education Commissioner to increase the 2024-25 property tax levy to a total of 5.38%, more than four times higher than the 1% hike voters approved in June.

The majority of board members voted for the increase, they said, under protest.

"I vote yes as directed by the commissioner," said Trustee Moshe Samuel Feder. "It is an unfair and unlawful decision."

Trustee Moses Koth said he believed Rosa's ruling was illegal. But he voted for the tax-levy change, as well.

Koth and others noted that violating an order of the commissioner could lead to a board member's removal. MORE AT East Ramapo board OKs tax levy hike ordered by NY state commissioner (lohud.com)

NEW GRID STUDY SHOWS HOW MUCH WIND AND SOLAR OUTPUT CAN VARY

New Grid Study Shows How Much Wind and Solar Output Can Vary
by Roger Caiazza

A new report from New York’s electric grid operator highlights the uncertainty around the state’s plan to power most of the economy using wind turbines and solar panels.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) issued its annual System and Resource Outlook, which among other things projects how much will be needed by the grid over the next two decades.

The Outlook includes “twelve by twenty-fours,” tables that show how much electricity (as a percentage of the maximum possible) will be generated by wind and solar in a typical hour and how that varies in each month of the year. For instance, utility-grade solar panels typically begin generating electricity at 5 AM in June but not until 8 AM in January, and total output around noon in July is double what’s expected at the same time of day in January.
