FROM THE CROTON ON HUDSON EMERGENCY SERVICES FB PAGE Facebook--Congratulations to Christina Greene and Evelyn McAndrew, this year’s recipients of the Charles J Ellison Memorial Scholarship!

Charles passed away in 2017 at the age of 20, after an 8-month battle with brain cancer. Charles was passionate about volunteering for Croton EMS and we established this Scholarship to honor Charles and to reward graduating seniors who show similar passion and dedication toward Croton EMS.

Christina and Evelyn both joined Croton EMS as Freshmen and have volunteered almost 300 hours each through their active participation in training sessions, ambulance ride-alongs, parades, blood drives, and other events. In addition, both served as officers of the Youth Corps for 2 years: Christina as Lieutenant, and Evelyn as Captain.

Christina will be attending the University of Connecticut, following a pre-med track; Evelyn will be attending The Catholic University of America, studying Psychology and Theology. We look forward to having them volunteer with us during breaks and summer vacations.

A Westchester County jury found last week that the MTA was mainly at fault for causing the deadliest accident in the railroad’s history that killed five passengers and an SUV driver and injured dozens of commuters. "Dog whistle" or runaway development? Croton continues its lively and often angry debate over what some are calling the "urbanization" of the village.

The Board of Trustees met twice last week to discuss two major proposed housing developments with significant implications for the village's future. Opponents to the projects are getting organized.

As most readers will know, two major housing developments are in the works for Croton, one at Lot A across from the train station entrance, and another at 1 Half Moon Bay Drive at the so-called “Finkelstein property.” The developers are proposing 100 affordable condominiums at Lot A, and 280 apartments (10% affordable) at the Finkelstein site. Shocking new footage shows local cops and a Secret Service agent standing over the dead body of would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks as they appeared to confirm the 20-year sniper was identified as a suspicious person before he opened fire.

The bodycam video, released by Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, shows Crooks’ lifeless body as a pool of blood trails along the roof where he wounded Trump and killed a hero firefighter earlier this month during a Pennsylvania rally.
