JOSEF PIEPER, DISCOURSE AND THE AGE OF COVID

Just a few days back, I was lunching with a friend. Over a plate of meatballs and spaghetti, he remarked how radically his professional direction and political orientation had changed over the years 2020 to 2022, the Covid ‘pandemic’ era.

He went on to say, “There are people I once trusted and respected who I can no longer trust and respect; and there are people I once distrusted who I have learned to respect.”

I know what he meant – and there are a great many others who today could say much the same of their own experiences, sharpened (or shattered) by the Covid time.  READ MORE AT Josef Pieper, Discourse, and the Age of Covid ⋆ Brownstone Institute

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

AT HOLY NAME OF MARY---There will be a special Respect Life collection at the October 12th & 13th Masses. Donations will be split between Birthright of Peekskill and St. Christopher’s Inn in Garrison. Birthright supports mothers to-be with supplies and financial help needed to care for their new babies on the way.   St. Christopher’s Inn in Graymoor in Garrison offers support and holds retreats for men suffering from substance abuse issues.  This year we have an anonymous donor who will match 50 cents for every dollar donated up to a thousand dollars, so if we raise $2000 or more, the donor will happily contribute $1000. Please be as generous as you can. To close Respect for Life month we will say a prayer written by the late and great Judy Anderson, praying for respect for life at all stages, the last weekend of October at all the masses. This has been a tradition in our church for over 30 years. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Submitted by The Respect For Life Society of Holy Name of Mary (Jessica Dieckman and Tom Faranda).

THE CROTON CHRONICLE---HAS THE VOICE OF CROTON PUT CROTON DEMOCRATS ON THE DEFENSIVE?

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Has the Voice of Croton campaign put Croton Democrats on the defensive?

There are growing "signs" of a split amongst the village's registered Democrats.

Speaking from her car in front of Lot A, Croton Democrats candidate for village trustee Maria Slippen says building 100 condo units on the property is “too many,” but 60 units is “just right.” (Please click on the link to view the Facebook video.)

For a number of months now, the Chronicle has been talking to registered Democrats in Croton who are loyal to the party and its national candidates—they would not dream of voting for Donald Trump or Mike Lawler—but have nevertheless been privately dismayed at the pace of housing development in the village advocated by Mayor Brian Pugh, deputy mayor Len Simon, and some other members of the Board of Trustees.
