Massive Expense Awaiting Municipalities in East of Hudson Watershed--July 3, 2024--Martin Wilbur

Municipalities in the East of Hudson watershed will have to comply with much more stringent MS4 stormwater regulations that will be prohibitively expensive and carry stiff penalties for communities that fail to comply.

New regulations from the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that went into effect in January requires towns to work harder to make sure their stormwater is clean.

Last week, New Castle officials blasted the state for imposing what may be a cost of as much as an additional $4 million over the next five years to adhere to the higher standards.

The standards, which stemmed from the historic 1997 agreement to protect New York City’s drinking water, have periodically been strengthened since then, said New Castle Director of Planning Sabrina Charney Hull. A WORD ABOUT SUMMER DAILY MASS AT HOLY NAME OF MARY---In previous years, our noon daily mass had been held in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. This summer, daily mass is being held in the main Church. We are trying to determine which is more cost efficient. At the end of the summer, a cost analysis will be made to help us plan for next summer. However, the safety of the Blessed Sacrament during daily Adoration is a priority. Bulletin (holynameofmary.org)
