LOHUD---The U.S. Secret Service would tighten its protection of major presidential candidates under a bill Rep. Mike Lawler and a fellow New Yorker say they're writing after the attempted assassination of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Lawler, a Hudson Valley Republican, and Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres of the Bronx announced their intent to introduce a bill on Sunday, one day after a 20-year-old gunman fired shots at Trump from a roof at a Pennsylvania rally. Before Secret Service snipers returned fire and killed the shooter, he killed one spectator, seriously injured two and nicked the former president's ear with a bullet as he spoke from a stage.
