A LETTER TO THE EDITOR, JOEL GINGOLD

Welcome to The New Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE FOLLOWING APPEARS IN THE GAZETTE

To the Editor,
Hmmmmmm!
Dozens of Croton citizens make heartfelt pleas to the village board to slow down development.   And the board totally ignores them.

Hundreds (thousands?) of village residents sign petitions urging the board to slow down
development. And the board effectively throws those petitions in the trash.

Then, Gary Eisinger and Nigel Ravelo announce their candidacies for the village board.  But wait! say the board members. How did that happen? They’re not supposed to do that!

We have a nice cozy single party board and can do whatever we want without fear of competition. All we need do is find another of the party faithful to fill any open seat. It’s been like that for years! How dare they interfere with our comfortable arrangement?

But guess what? Eisinger and Ravelo are actually doin’ it and here they come!

And then they looked over their shoulders at the increasing animosity toward the board,
and the gross resentment toward board members who seem to care little, if at all, about
the opinions of their constituents or for the well-being of our community. And they
observed the rapidly rising support for Gary and Nigel in all corners of our village.

And magically, they had an awakening. An epiphany! Perhaps the 280 apartments
proposed for 1 Half Moon Bay Drive were really not such a great idea after all. Why
don’t we let the developer come back with something else we can more comfortably ram
through the process?

And we won’t admit its due to our having competition in the election. We can blame it all
on the Westchester County Planning Board. This flip-flop ain’t got nothin’ at all to do
with us!

Hmmmmmmm!

Folks, don’t be taken in by this seemingly positive development. One HMB is far from
dead. And we’ve still got the 100 proposed apartments at Parking Lot A working their way through the process at a time when we simply cannot know what their impact will be on top of all of those other developments already approved.

The process must be slowed. Gary Eisinger and Nigel Ravelo must be elected to the
village board in November to ensure that we have orderly development in Croton. Learn
those names and write them down. Because you will have to accurately write them in on
the ballot.

Remember, your vote for the Croton Village Board is just as important to the future of
our village as your vote for national office is to the future of our country.
Sincerely,
Joel E. Gingold
