THE CROTON CHRONICLE---A POORLY ATTENDED FORUM WITH 2 UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES FOR THE CROTON BOARD OF ED HITS SOME ISSUES, BUT MISSES ONE MAJOR CONCERN OF PARENTS

A poorly attended forum with two unopposed candidates for the Croton Board of Education hits some issues, but misses one major concern of parents.

With Jeneen Garcia out of the race, Ana Teague and Omar Mayyasi fielded questions sent by parents and others to the Zoom session. Academic standards, a big concern of many parents, were ignored.

Recent history has shown that elections for the Croton-Harmon Board of Education can be fiercely fought and divisive affairs. But this year the school district narrowly escaped having a contested election this coming May 21. Last week, candidate Jeneen Garcia dropped out of the race, telling The Gazette that “as a single mother balancing a full-time job,” she “realized that I am unable to move forward with this commitment…”

That leaves incumbent Board members Ana Teague and Omar Mayyasi unopposed for the two open seats. MORE AT A poorly attended forum with two unopposed candidates for the Croton Board of Education hits some issues, but misses one major concern of parents. (substack.com)

  1. Too busy with the queer/trans/equity stuff. It's why our family went elsewhere despite the expense.

    1. That wouldn't bother me so much if it hadn't supplanted the basic things, like reading, writing and mathematics. The post-pandemic academic slide must be addressed and that means spending less time on gender and equity and more on what school is SUPPOSED TO BE. I don't care if someone thinks their son is a girl or vice versa and wants the rest of us to blindly accept their personal family situation. I DO care about traditional education.

  2. Questions regarding academic standards were ignored? Let me prepare my shocked face.
