From the Croton FD FB Page--Several members completed their Emergency Escape System certification training today at Harmon Firehouse.
Instructed by AAA Emergency Supply, these members performed numerous “escapes” from a window using their “bailout systems.”
Following a major fire in The Bronx in 2005, on what is known as “Black Sunday,” several New York City firefighters had to jump out or bail out of upper floor windows when fire conditions became unsurvivable and cut off their exit inside. This led to the deaths of three and serious injuries to three other firefighters prompting legislation to outfit firefighters statewide with training and equipment to hopefully prevent this from happening again.
